The Small Adventures of Gardening and Reading Lists

The Small Adventures of Gardening and Reading Lists

Spring is upon us and Summer is fast approaching, which means Christmas is coming, insert happy dance! Summer in Australia is HOT, cannot touch your steering wheel hot. Which means it is absolutely not the opportune time to do gardening, {Except for the true enthusiasts of course, which I am not}. Summer gardening is more of a stand under the hose as you water the plants type situation, but only in the early morning or late afternoon so you don’t boil the plants {the water can heat up that much, crazy!}. I think I need to move to the snow pronto!

But that pool life, is the best! So like good ‘scouts’ {also, which we are not} our little family is ‘getting prepared’ now. Before the scorching sun is upon us, and making our yard and pool Christmas/Summer ready. Naturally we can then just congratulate ourselves all the way through the next season, ‘aren’t we glad we gardened in Spring etc etc.’ We are going to be loving our Spring selves soon, hallelujah.

In years gone by we would normally have done these tasks together in Summer as that’s when the kids were off school, and we could never fit the big tasks into the weekends with sport, church, parties and the like. I am so grateful that the kids have worked together on a project that will bless our friends and family for the party season ahead.

There is still plenty of time for reading, even when faced with the unseemly job of weeding and tidying the yard. Here is a snapshot of what we are reading this month.

As you can see travelling the world, is big on our reading agenda, trying to understand as much as we can about the different countries of the world is fascinating.

My big boy went to soccer again this afternoon with his dad. At the end of the day he came in dancing with this ridiculous outfit. He thought he was hilarious, which of course he was. He is so happy homeschooling, so much more relaxed, so much more willing to have a laugh and be silly. The pressure is off and he is more and more settled every day, this was totally the right move for us.
