When Your Day Doesn’t Start As Planned

When Your Day Doesn't Start as Planned

Sometimes the days don’t always start out the way we plan, and occasionally on those days I notice that God is actually revealing a better plan. {Other times, it just takes me longer to see it}. Today was a day of stretch for me, a God calling to go that little bit deeper and wider and trust him to work.

My plan was to go to the beach for the day, which I happened to think was a pretty fantastic plan, LJ however, did not. He was not in the mood for the beach, {bless him}. I was feeling that sense of mum frustration when you list in your head all that you do for your little ones… {you know what I mean, it’s an ugly rehearsal, but truth none the less}. I was simply asking him to come and enjoy himself, to do something he didn’t want to do on this particular occasion for me. I’m not sure why today particularly this struck a nerve with me, but it did. I was simply after a Disney-esque happy little trail of people singing and skipping to the car, thoroughly joyful for our day of adventure. {A Pinterest perfect, Insta-worthy day, you know what I’m, saying? All the ridiculously perfect expectations, that are completely not real world}. The suggestion was met with more groaning than singing. Just keeping it real, hope it blesses you, you are not alone. After a little while, he came and spoke to me and said sorry mum, I want to come and to do so joyfully today.

When we got to the beach, after a small effort to get out the door, not only were the pools empty but I dropped my phone in the ocean. I looked down the rocks and started calculating how much it would cost to replace as I thought, that’s it now. LJ straight away without being asked said I’ll get it for you mum.

Without a moment’s hesitation he was climbing down the rocks and into the sea with his shoes on.

Before climbing back up to deliver to me my WORKING phone! I forgot they were now waterproof!!! Hallelujah! I gave him the hugest hugs and was so incredibly grateful, not just that my phone was working, but that he had really displayed what we had been speaking about in the morning, sacrificial love. Love that acts, even when you don’t feel like it, to love somebody else. I felt so loved and cared for and couldn’t help but be so grateful that my little boy is  becoming a real gentleman.

Of course we all had an amazing time once we got going, {that was the great plan after all} we had left early trying to beat the afternoon storms, reversing our order of the day to be home and doing schoolwork after lunch. They were indeed all singing the ‘this was the best day’ happy choruses. Yes! Mum Win!

With the swimming pools closed, we explored the rock pools instead, a much better option given that it was a little chilly anyhow.

Such a pretty, pretty place to stop and remember that there is a God in heaven, all powerful and good and he loves us.

I love it when they’re all together, and that arm, he is so adorable.

Shells and Sand were stored away for the kids collections that they are slowly building, trying to create a sea habitat at home.

On the way home we stopped at the Library to refresh our books and went shopping in preparation for the storms coming this afternoon. When we got home the kids did some journalling of the day, the phone rescue got a BIG mention, some math and reading time.

I hope wherever you are, your day is wonderful and if it doesn’t start off that way, my prayer is that you will see God at work even in the less than fun moments.

Lots of Love x
