Starting off the Christmas Season with Amy Grant and Fruit Soaking

Boathouse Jars

As well as beautiful days by the beach this week, I also had an amazing time visiting what I suppose will be my new favourite store.

Boathouse Home

I had never been here before, but fell in love immediately, the smell of the candles. the light open space, the lobster cage lights and all the pretty homewares. I bought new tea towels and a basket for a wall at home.

Nutella Slice

Which is exactly where we needed to be today, a day to bunker down and have some quality time at home. We slept in and read books, Face-timed with Shane and baked up a storm. LJ and I caught up on a show we have been watching together, ‘Escape to the Chateau’ an incredibly interesting documentary about a British couple who buy a dilapidated old Chateau and bring it back to life. I’m so inspired, I want to move to France and do the same thing, I would love to live surrounded by forests, and acreage in an old stone building, how charming it would be. {We wouldn’t of course, as it is not our calling, just a daydream after four episodes of chateau renovation}.

Pudding Recipe

My favourite part of the day had to be preparing the fruit for the Christmas pudding. This is a mish-mash of recipes I have been making for the last few years, after trying a few others which were never quite right somehow. This recipe is my go to now, with a few minor adjustments, such as soaking it for way longer than four hours. The end of October is perfect, but November is pretty great too. I wrote the recipe in the back of my favourite book which I bring out at this time of year to get ready for the season.

Pudding Mix

So with Amy Grant singing sweetly on the stereo, bringing all the Christmas feelings. We happily put our fruits and almonds in brandy to soak for the next month before being made into a rich Christmas Pudding.

For this recipe I use.

3/4 Cup Sultanas

1C Currants

1/2 C Raisins

3/4 C Pitted Dates

2/3 C Slivered Almonds

Soaked in 1/2 Cup of Brandy

We had friends over in the afternoon to share in our baking, followed by a visit to friends from church who invited us over for a BBQ.

I hope your day has been relaxing and full of fun.

Lots of Love x
