Today our advent season began, a time to pause and reflect on the wonder of Jesus, Emmanuel, God with us. We opened our family fun for the day which was to decorate the Christmas Tree. We always do this on the first of December as we always get a fresh tree and any earlier the tree dies in the heat by Christmas Day, this is a long season of trying to keep the tree fresh. So we headed to our usual spot to choose a tree.
I am not much of a traditionalist when it comes to work and church, but when it comes to family Holidays, Christmas, Easter, Going away together that is where any and every ounce of tradition and making memories comes to life. We come to this same spot every year, the kids look at the deer.
Wander through the light shop.
All while Dad puts the tree on the car, everyone has their job and by now everyone knows it.
We got home and Darby happily changed his bed location to make room for the tree, I actually think he’s happier here in the kitchen watching all the action so it’s win win in the dog world.
Shane and I provided the food and music, then while Shane and I sat back and relaxed the kids decorated the tree. I love the smell of my home at this time of year. We are filling the Jesus Story Book Advent and reading for today is The Story and the Song, Creation. I am glad to have turned the carols on this morning and listened to the words which calmed my fragile spirit. I needed the reminder this season brings that sings of the silent and holy night, the midnight clear that changed everything. I want this season this year to be sacred and still, I want to press into the joy and the restoration that only the one whom the shepherd and angel worships can give.
Enjoy the beginning of Advent wherever you are.
Lots of Love x
